With these easy instructions, you will learn how to make a last-minute, beautiful crochet heart coaster. Whether you call them a drink mat, mug mat, or cup coaster, these home projects are perfect for using leftover yarn and are very quick to make.

If you’re looking for a cute last-minute Valentine’s Day, Anniversary, or Mother’s Day gift, or something to decorate with, you’ll love this crochet beermat pattern.

While you’re here, check out these other heart patterns I’ve designed over the years: this crochet heart-shaped coaster is a little more intricate and perfect for Mother’s Day. This heart doily and this crochet dishcloth were made with a unique technique called tapestry crochet. This 3D Amigurumi heart is so cute and ideal for Valentine’s Day decorations.

What You’ll Need:

  • Approximately 25 yards (23 m) of worsted-weight (4) yarn for each coaster – I used 100% cotton from my stash.

  • Scissors, tapestry needle, and stitch markers.

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • This pattern uses basic stitches (see abbreviations and terms above).
  • The pattern is worked in turning rows.

  • When working with multiple colors in every two rows, there is no need to cut the yarn at the end of the row. Just drop the unused yarn and pick up the new color as you go.
  • Gauge is not relevant for this project, but feel free to use a larger hook if you want the coater to be bigger.
