The easiest Amigurumi project for a beginner is a sphere. Why? Because a sphere has most of the basic techniques you will need to start. Such as, magic circle, single crochet stitches in continuous rounds, increase, decrease. And you can even practice stuffing.
No, not necessarily! As an alternative to the magic circle, you can crochet two chains and then make the first round in the second chain from the hook.
Worsted weight (#4) cotton and acrylic yarns are the best in my experience. Especially for crocheters that are still building their Amigurumi skills. But once feel comfortable and know what you’re doing, you’ll have fun experimenting other yarn fibers and thickness.
The essential tools and supplies for Amigurumi are: yarn, smaller crochet hooks, stitch markers, polyester fiber fill, stuffing tool, scissors, tapestry needle, safety eyes. Check the full list for more Amigurumi supplies here.
