Supplies Needed for Spring Crochet Patterns
It’s always a good practice to check your specific project’s supply list. But when working on your spring crochet patterns, here’s what you’ll need most of the time:
- Yarn – Fine (#2) to worsted (#4) are the most common weights (more on yarns below).
- Stitch markers – they will be useful for Amigurumi, but if you’re a beginner you can use them for any project.
- Crochet hooks – Clover Amour Hooks are my favorite. since you’ll be working with lighter yarns, up to 4.50 mm or 5.00 mm (US 7/E) sizes will work best.
- Polyester fiberfill – for stuffed animals and toys.
- Yarn scissors – it’s always a good idea to have a few of them handy.
- A flexible measuring tape – if you’re making garments and hats, you’ll need it.
- Other helpful notions: tapestry needles, thread, buttons, and safety eyes.
What yarns are best for spring crochet patterns?
Generally, worsted weight (#4) or lighter yarns with cool and absorbent fiber contents are the best for spring projects. I recommend cotton, bamboo, and rayon. And the reasons, besides the obvious comfort they offer, these fibers are durable and easy to care for.
Obviously, there are many acrylic and polyester blends that are great in quality as well. If you’re making home décor, for example, these fibers are very good choices. With that said, when it comes to yarn type, you can always go with what you have already tested and approved.
Here are my favorite yarns for spring patterns:
- Lily Sugar’n Cream – this is a 100% cotton yarn that’s great for home décor.
- 24/7 by Lion Brand – this 100% mercerized cotton comes in DK (#3) and Worsted (#4) weights ant is great for garments and toys.
- Cotton Fair Premier Yarns – this cotton/acrylic blend is a Fine (#2) super soft yarn that’s amazing for crochet tops.
- I Love This Cotton by Hobby Lobby – this is a 100% cotton that’s perfect for Amigurumi, kitchen towels and bucket hats.
- Coboo by Lion Brand is a cotton plus bamboo blend yarn that’s an amazing choice for dresses and tops.
- Truboo by Lion Brand is a rayon yarn that that is another great choice for garments as well.
