Why I loved making it:

  • It’s quick and easyย โ€“ I created it with two simple panels and assembled them under 15 minutes. They are ideal for last-minute crochet gifts.
  • Perfect for decorationsย โ€“ I made them individually and will use them as decoration for my desk. But they make cute ornaments or can be strung together as a garland to enhance LGBTQ+ pride celebration parties.
  • Cheerful giftsย โ€“ I will make more of them as tokens for my friends to celebrate pride. However, they’re also perfect as other small gifts, like keychains or small plushies with safety eyes.
  • A perfect stash busterย โ€“ I have tons of yarn leftovers tat aren’t really enough for larger projects, so I thought this was the perfect time to use my rainbow color yarn stash on these pride themed crochet hearts.

Step 2: Split the Heart Bumps (red)

Left bump:

Continue from where row 12 ended in the previous step.

Row 1 (RS): ch 1, dec, 5 sc, dec, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: dec, 3 sc, dec, ch 1, turn.

Row 3: dec, sc, dec, ch 1, turn. Cut the yarn. FO.

Right bump:

Attach the red yarn in the center of the heart top, same st as the last st of row 1 in the first half.

Row 1 (RS): dec, 5 sc, dec, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: dec, 3 sc, dec, ch 1, turn.

Row 3: dec, sc, dec, ch 1, turn. Cut the yarn for the first panel only (or cut the yarn for both panels if you want to use another color to attach the panels in the next step). FO.

Tip: Before proceeding, secure all the ends. You can either weave them in or tuck them inside your crochet rainbow heart as you attach the panels in the next step.

Step 3: Assembling the Panels

Please be aware that there isn’t a precise method for inserting the hood around the panels. However, aim to keep the single crochet stitches as uniform as possible. For the hearts shown in the picture, I used two loops from each post to insert the hook.

  • Pair the two panels together, with the wrong sides facing in.
  • Single crochet around, with an extended single crochet stitch between the bumps, created by inserting the hook two rows down.
  • Slightly stuff the heart before closing it completely.

Optional Finishings

  • Crochet several rainbow hearts and make them into a garland.
  • Add a tassel to the bottom and string to the top with a wooden bead to create a wall hanging.
  • Add a keychain ring, safety eyes, or embroider with a name to personalize it as a thoughtful gift.

Your crochet rainbow heart is done. I hope had fun making it.
