My Experience Creating This Crochet Candy Corn Plushie
Creating this plushie was a lot of fun – but it definitely didn’t come together perfectly on the first try.
- Three different yarn colors to juggle: My first attempt left the seam from the color changes running right down the front. Let’s just say it wasn’t the look I was going for (you can spot it in the photo below!). So, back to the creating math process I went, carefully reworking the pattern to ensure the seam landed neatly at the back, where it belonged.
- The color of the limbs: The next hurdle turned out to be the arms and legs. Initially, I crocheted them in candy corn color (yellow), but something just felt… off. It just didn’t pop the way I wanted.
- Accepting the option of a special critic: My twelve-year-old son peeked over my shoulder and said, “Mom, the arms and legs would really pop if they were black.” And he was absolutely right! One small change, and this little Amigurumi candy corn plushie had all the character and personality it needed.
Even though I’ve been designing Amigurumi for years and consider myself an expert, I’ll admit—a pattern sample doesn’t always come together perfectly on the first try. But honestly, I enjoy that part so much. Every small change in the process is just another step in creating these whimsical plushies I love to share with you.
And this candy corn plushie, with its chubby body, playful limbs, adorable face, and optional witch hat, has become one of my new favorites. And I promise you’ll enjoy making it, too. Let’s gather our yarn, hooks, and notions and get started!
Crochet Candy Corn Pattern
What You’ll Need:
- Worsted Weight (4) yarn in colors yellow, orange, black, and cream (more on the yarn below).
- 3.50 mm (US E) crochet hook for the candy corn plushie.
- 4.00 mm (US G) crochet hook for the witch hat.
- Stuffing Fiber, such as Poly-Fil
- A pair of 12 mm safety eyes with washers
- Safety eyes placement tool (optional)
- Stuffing tool, like a hemostat (optional, but very helpful)
- Stitch marker, darning needle, and scissors
Yarn Specifics:
Most of the yarns I used in this crochet candy corn were unlabeled leftovers from my stash of 100% acrylic, medium-weight (4) yarns. However, if you’re wondering what yarns are a good fit, Basic Stitch and Vana’s Choice by Lion Brand are two of my favorite acrylic yarns.
Here is the approximate amount by color you’ll need for this crochet candy corn plush:
- Yellow: You’ll use 28 yards (26 meters)
- Orange: You’ll use 24 yards (22 meters)
- Cream: You’ll use 15 yards (14 meters)
- Black: You’ll use 30 yards (27 meters)
Finished Project Size:
This Amigurumi corn candy will stand approximately 6 ¼ inches (16 cm) tall, excluding the legs and hat. Its circumference will be approximately 11.5 inches (29 cm), measured around the thickest part of the body.
Pattern Notes:
- This crochet candy corn pattern uses US Crochet Terminology.
- Level of difficulty: Advanced beginner.
- This Amigurumi candy corn is crocheted bottom-up in continuous rounds (no joining) of “yarn-under” single crochet stitches.
- If you’re making this plushie for a young child, avoid using safety eyes, as they can come loose and pose a choking hazard. I recommend embroidering the eyes instead.
- Use stitch markers to indicate the start of each round, moving them up as you go.
- Stuff the candy corn plush firmly as you go (please, avoid overstuffing).
- Stitch tension: Gauge isn’t crucial for this project. For reference, 11 yarn under single crochet stitches and 12 rows will measure roughly 2 inches (5 cm) square.

Instructions
Use the black yarn for the legs and the arms (or any other color indicated in the pattern). The legs are crocheted from the top down and have their own round count. Then, keep following the color change instructions throughout the pattern.

Step 1: Legs and feet (x2)

There’s no need to add stuffing to the legs (add some to the feet to shape them a bit before fastening off).
Rnd 2-11: sc around. [10]
Rnd 12: (inc) x 3, sc 3, inc, sc 3. [14]
Rnd 13: (inc) x 6, sc 8. [20]

Pro Tip: When creating an oval, such as the one you’ve just started, you’ll avoid holes by crocheting the first half of the stitches of round #1 into the back bump of the chains and the second half into the opposite two loops.
Rnd 2: *(inc) x 3, sc 6, rep from the asterisk one more time. [24]
Rnd 3: *(inc, sc) x 3, sc 6, rep from the asterisk one more time. [30]

Rnd 19: sc around [48]
Rnd 20: (dec, sc 14) x 3. [45]
Next, attach the arms to round #21: Squeeze the arm’s opening and hold it in place to join with four stitches, one at a time, on the far sides of the corn candy plushie.
Rnd 21: sc 9, sc 4 with the 1st arm, sc 18, sc 4 with the 2nd arm, sc 10. [45]

Rnd 31: sc around [30]
Rnd 32: (dec, sc 8) x 3. [27]

Crochet Candy Corn Pattern FAQ
-
Is this crochet candy corn pattern beginner-friendly?
Yes! This pattern uses basic Amigurumi stitches, including single crochet, increases, and decreases. If you’ve tried Amigurumi before, you’ll find it easy to follow. Beginners can complete it with a bit of patience after watching some YouTube tutorials.
-
What yarn works best for the candy corn plushie?
I designed mine using 100% medium-weight acrylic yarn. However, if you’re looking for an oversized, squishy plushie, you can use thicker yarns, such as bulky chenille.
-
Can I make the witch hat removable?
Absolutely! You can customize it however you like, making it removable or attached. To fix it onto the top of the plushie’s head, use black yarn, a few hidden stitches under the hat’s band.
-
What’s the best stuffing to use?
Polyester fiberfill is my favorite because it keeps the plushie soft and huggable, and also for easy care. Make sure to stuff firmly so it holds its shape.

This is adorable – thank you! I’m confused on the feet… I don’t understand how to get to the listed stitch count in rows 16 and 17. And when you FO after row 17, do you sew the foot closed?
Hi Nikki,
You’re absolutely right, there was an error to finish the foot, I’ve just fixed it. And yes, you sew the foot closed. Thank you so much! <3
Thank you so much! He turned out so cute. I can’t wait to put him out with my Halloween decorations next year!
You’re very welcome, Nikki. I’m glad it worked and that you love the result. Thank you! <3
