Rows 10-88: Repeat rows 2-9. Do not cut the yarn. Continue to crochet the baby girl’s crochet blanket edging.
Next, I’m showing you how to create a simple two-row edging for this baby girl crochet blanket. However, you can also use your preferred edging stitch.
Edging round# 1
Switch to the 3.5 mm (US E) hook (this smaller hook will help to keep the edging flat). For this step, we will crochet two rounds only. For the first round, we will use plain hdc.
Tip: the stitch count in this step is not crucial, but once you finish one side, measure it against the opposite side to ensure they match.
Edging round# 1 (RS): ch 2, go around (counterclockwise), and do 2 hdc sts for each st post on the sides. Hdc st into each st and in each ch on the ends of the blanket. And (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in each corner. Sl st to join.
Edging round# 2
Round 2 (RS): For this second round, we use the Marguerite stitch (star stitch), which consists of 5 sctog. Continue going counterclockwise with the same hook.
Crocheting the marguerite st:
Create the 1st Marguerite St: Start with ch 3 (photo #1).
Insert the hook into the 2nd ch from the hook, yo, and pull up a loop – 2 loops on the hook.
Insert the hook into the next ch, yo, and pull up a loop – 3 loops on the hook.
(Insert the hook into the next st on the border of the blanket, yo, and pull up a loop), 3 times – 6 loops on the hook (photo #2).
Yo, pull through all 6 loops (photo #3). This creates the “eye” of the first Marguerite stitch.
Create the 2nd Marguerite St: Ch 2 (photo #4).
Insert the hook into the second ch from the hook, yo, and pull up a loop – 2 loops on hook.
Insert the hook into the eye of the Marguerite st, yo, and pull up a loop – 3 loops on the hook.
Insert the hook into the next 2 side loops of the last sc in the group of 5sctog, yo, pull up a loop – 4 loops on the hook.
(Insert the hook in next st on the border of the blanket, yo, and pull up a loop), 2 times – 6 loops on the hook (photo #5).
Yo, pull through all 6 loops (photo #6). This creates the “eye” of the 2nd Marguerite stitch.
Repeat the instructions above for the 2nd st around the blanket. There are no special instructions for the corners. Keep going and follow the pattern until you complete the row. FO. Weave in all the ends.

Baby Girl Crochet Blanket FAQ
What’s the best yarn for this baby girl crochet blanket?
Lightweight yarns (#3) are perfect for crocheting baby blankets crafted with lace stitches. However, if you choose to use medium-weight yarn, create a stitch swatch to ensure you’ll be happy with the result.
How many skeins of yarn do I need for this blanket?
You’ll use less than one ball of Bernat Baby Sport Yarn in white sparkle colors, which comes in 1178-yard skeins. However, if you use the ombre colors instead, you must purchase two balls.
How big should a newborn baby blanket be?
A baby blanket typically measures 30 inches by 30 inches, which is ideal for swaddling or cuddling. This size helps your little one feel secure, but this baby girl crochet blanket pattern can be easily customized to any size you prefer.
